Experience the Art of IKENOBO Ikebana

Ikenobo is the original form of Ikebana, established in the 16th century by a Buddhist monk who lived in a hut (=bo) near a pond (=ike).

Ikenobo has 3 main styles, Jiyuka (Free style), Shoka and Rikka.

Rikka – representing the natural scenery with fixed pattern and rules. Oldest style was created in the 16th century.

Shoka – presenting the aspect of plants living on earth, with different rules from Rikka, created in 17th – 18th century.

Free style – expressing the beauty of plants without any regulations, most modern style.
